Design Philosophy

“THE EYE LIKES A CURVE.”  I find this to be fundamental to my work and designs.  I cannot find the statement attributed to anyone famous, but as soon as I heard it, I knew that it held some truth for me.  Almost all of my designs have curves in them as a significant feature, not an afterthought.   If pressed to describe my style, I would have to claim a cross between Japanese and Danish Modern.  I also admire the Beidermeyer period, although I have not made any reproductions from that era.  It embodies a simplification in style from prior eras, but still has some ornamentation and features.

My design influences include furniture makers James Krenov, Peter Korn, Andy Lawton, Brian Condran, and the architect Maya Lin, and the designers for automobiles such as Alfa-Romeo, Ferrari and Acura.  At times these automobile makers have embodied graceful, understated, timeless curves.  Perhaps in my next life I will design automobiles.  Or sing at the Met!
